Day 2 - level and form

The site which we are building the home is just around the corner from the PSF house, this is really great considering the PSF truck is broken and we have to carry all the equipment to site.
So 5 volunteers headed off this morning wheelbarrows and tools in hand. We arrived to the delightful site of having the site cleared as asked and ready to be prepared for the form boards.
A slight hitch was discovered throughout the day in that the boundary of the property is not where originally thought.. . the plans have to change!!!!! Bloody typical PISCO. So after much debate with the family we have agreed on a 3m x 9m modular with two rooms. The bathroom will be seperate with new walls and door.
It was particularly lucky that this site is so close as regular visits were made back to the house to pick up more supplies- including a jack hammer. I was so excited for my first jack hammer experience and I have to say it is very therapeutic. After much hammering, shovelling, and raking the site was level and ready to form. The form boards 6m long and 20cm deep needed to be carried for our woodshed down the roads. So planks of wood were piled on our shoulders and off down the road we walked.
As part of the agreement with the families in building them a new home is for thenm to provide us with lunch. Sonya (the mother) perpared a delicious lunch of chicken, rice and potatoes (typical Peru carb diet). PSF is also encouraging families to contribute to the materials needed for the modular - moving away from the hand outs of past into more investment and capacity building. So it was with great delight that she informed us that 12 bags of cement would arrive tonight and a truck showed up with 6m3 of aggregate just after 2pm. This is such a delight as it is difficult to get people to follow through with their word and it can often take considerable time. We are now on track to pour our concrete slab tomorrow.
