The day began in complete disorganisation with no one quite knowing what was going on for dinner. Half the group ended up getting, bread, fruit and peanut butter and heading straight to the school 8kms away for breakfast. The group that I was in - also known as the coffee dependent group set out to find breakfast that would accommodate for the large number of vegetarians in our group. We ended up back at the restaurant we ate at last night which was far in excess of out allocated budget.
As soon as I hoped on my bike this morning I felt a nerve niggle in my hip - after cycling the 8kms to the school I was in agony due to the uncomfortable sleep I had had the night before. I was flat on my back for the entire morning due to the pain and subsequent nausea. This is day two - not a good sign...
For out school visit we had been put in charge of teaching an eco lesson to the kids and our session title was biodiversity... we had been given this task the night before when we were delirious and tired and had no time to prepare - so full credit goes to all my wonderful team member who managed to pull something out from somewhere to produce a eco lesson and corresponding bracelets,
Yellow - Sun
Blue - Water
Green - plants
Red - animals
Clear - air
The kids of the school had prepared presentations for us and it was wonderful to see them get up in front of their fellow class mates and us (a strange experience in this culture) and tell us about their lives. There was also a lot of singing to be had on this day and I have the most wonderful video of all the kids singing - you say yes, I say no, you say stop I say go go go oh no you say goodbye I say hello - it was such a classic moment and put such a huge smile on my face - what a great way to finish the day after starting off in so much pain. We also had the whole room doing heads, shoulders, knees and toes at full speed and laughter filled the air :)
This school has also embraced the XO part of the one computer per child programme. These are wonderful machines and I was particularly impressed by its ability to measure distance by using sound waves refracting off another computer... so cool!
PEPY has a house located at the school where their teachers and welcome to stay - as part of this they have a wonderful team of cooks who make the most wonderful of food :) Still waiting for a pumpkin recipe that I will be sure to try on my friends and family when I return home.
