Food food glorious food! Battambang 30/12/2008

Well I am sure you all know how much I LOVE food - well this turned out to be a day for me :)
We had a free breakfast meaning that we could head to whichever restaurant we wanted and order whatever our little hearts desired. A breakfast of muesli, fruit smoothie, fresh juice, fruit salad and coffee certainly left a smile on my face. This also provided a great opportunity to have some time to myself to reflect, write and read.
This was appropriately followed by a Khmer cooking course where we had a tour through the local market and used our market purchases to make absolutely Divine food including amok - watch out as I will also be making this for everyone when I get home. I put a few too many chillies in the salad that I made meaning that I needed to cool my mouth down with some beer - That afternoon we had a NGO visit with DDD (digital data divide) which has taken on the initiative of setting up a social venture company originally providing call centre services for international companies now expanded into many other tech things.
The set out providing training for disadvantaged Cambodians and one of the persistent questions was how do you choose who to accept into a programme in a country where the majority of the population are disadvantaged. I really liked this model as not only did it provide specific training for they also encouraged further education at the local university and their business ventures were supporting themselves.
